The Sacrament of Holy Matrimony
Planning your Wedding at St. Peter Catholic Church
Weddings & Civil Marriages
The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.
Weddings
St. Peter Roman Catholic Church congratulates you on desiring to become ONE through the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. This is an important milestone both in your personal lives as well as the life of our parish. We are eager to assist you to make your joyous day most memorable. We request that you contact our Parish Office – (337) 369-3816 – to discuss dates and availability of the church at least six (6) months prior to your intended wedding date.
Civil Marriages
Having your Civil Marriage Convalidated
Our parish staff is most willing to assist our parishioners who are currently in a non-sacramental marriage. Please contact one of the parish priests or deacons to discuss what is needed in order to have your civil marriage convalidated.
Preparing Couples for Marriage
In 2023, St. Peter’s began offering a new marriage preparation program to couples getting married in our Parish. Three couples have completed the Witness To Love program and we currently have eight engaged couples at different stages in their preparation. We have received very positive feedback from this program, especially the value of working with a mentor couple. Mentor couples do not need advance training. Instead, they work through the materials at the same time as the engaged couple and help to be a positive example for the engaged couple while helping integrate them into parish life.
Mentor couples are parishioners who have been married for at least 5 years, active in a ministry, and are in full communion with the Church. If you and your spouse are interested in being a mentor couple for an engaged couple in our parish or would like more information on this program, please contact Carrie Templeton at: carrietemp1978@gmail.com.
